Smile design is the process of planning the color, shape and alignment of your teeth digitally so that they harmonize with your facial features. Thanks to a pre-treatment simulation, you can see the result before treatment even begins.
The process starts with an initial examination and a digital scan. During the mock-up stage you try your new smile directly in your mouth, and we then make it permanent with porcelain veneers or E-max veneers.
Most cases are completed within 5–7 working days. For our patients coming from abroad, we organize the entire plan so that it fits into a single trip.
What Is Digital Smile Design (DSD)?
Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a planning method that reimagines your smile by combining aesthetic dentistry, photography and three-dimensional software data. Your facial proportions, lip line, gum level and the relationship between your teeth are measured and translated into a precise, mathematical design. This turns a "beautiful smile" from a subjective guess into something measurable, personalized to your face and visible in advance.
Its greatest advantage is predictability. Before any treatment begins, you see a digital and physical trial (mock-up) of your new smile and make any adjustments while no tooth has been touched yet. This approach noticeably improves both patient satisfaction and the long-term stability of the result.
The DSD Process, Step by Step
Smile design is not a single procedure but a planned journey made up of a few short stages:
- 1. Initial examination and analysis: We listen to your expectations, take facial and smile photographs and perform an intraoral digital scan.
- 2. Digital design: Tooth shape, length, color and alignment are planned on the software according to your facial features.
- 3. Mock-up (trial) stage: The design is applied to your mouth with a temporary material, so you see your new smile live in the mirror.
- 4. Preparation and impression: After your approval, the teeth are minimally prepared and a precise digital impression is taken.
- 5. Placement and delivery: The porcelain restorations produced in the laboratory are bonded and the final touches are made.
Which Materials Are Used?
The most common restorations in smile design are porcelain veneers and full-ceramic (E-max) veneers. Porcelain laminates are thin shells bonded to the front surface of the tooth and require very little tooth reduction. E-max lithium disilicate ceramic transmits light in a way that closely mimics natural enamel, giving an extremely vibrant and natural appearance. For more extensive cases or back teeth, highly durable zirconium may be preferred. The right material is chosen based on tooth position, your bite force and your aesthetic expectations.

Who Is Smile Design For?
Smile design offers clear benefits in the following situations:
- Discolored or stained teeth that do not respond to whitening
- Chipped, worn or shortened front teeth
- Gaps between teeth (diastema) and mild crowding
- A "gummy smile" with an unbalanced gum-to-tooth ratio
- Renewing old fillings and crowns that have changed color
In cases of gum disease, severe crowding or decay, we first build a healthy foundation. When needed, periodontology or Gum Treatments treatment is planned before the design stage.
How Long Does It Take, and Is It Painful?
Most aesthetic cases involving only laminates or veneers are completed within 5–7 working days. Because the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, you feel no pain; the mock-up stage is completely painless. For patients coming from abroad, we plan all appointments to fit into a single trip, with scanning and design on the first day and placement and delivery in the final days. More extensive cases requiring zirconium bridges or implant-supported restorations may take a little longer; in that case we split the process into two short visits to keep you comfortable. We share a personalized treatment plan and timeline at every stage, so you know in advance which procedure will take place on which day.
Benefits of Smile Design
Smile design is not only an aesthetic touch but also a functional improvement. A well-planned smile can correct bite (occlusion) harmony and improve speech and chewing comfort. Most importantly, seeing the result before treatment removes any risk of surprises. The key benefits include:
- Seeing the result digitally and physically before treatment
- A natural, custom look in harmony with your facial features
- A tissue-preserving approach with minimal tooth reduction
- Long-lasting porcelain surfaces resistant to stains and discoloration
- Increased confidence and a more relaxed smile
Why Smile Design in Antalya?
Antalya is a preferred center for aesthetic dentistry thanks to its world-class laboratory infrastructure, experienced dental teams and favorable cost balance. At Sirius Dental Clinic, we make results predictable through digital scanning, our own design process and careful material selection. For our guests coming from abroad, we also coordinate accommodation and transfers under one roof, so both the treatment and the trip are easy to manage.
Care and Longevity
Well-maintained porcelain restorations last for many years without problems. Regular daily brushing and flossing, a check-up and professional cleaning every six months, and avoiding biting hard objects (ice, pens) significantly extend their lifespan. A night guard is recommended for people who clench or grind their teeth. The porcelain surface is more stain-resistant than natural teeth, though smoking and heavy coffee or tea can still affect the color over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a lot of my tooth be removed for smile design?
No. With modern porcelain veneers, tooth reduction is minimal; in some cases a no-prep application with no reduction at all is possible. The goal is to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.
Will the result look natural?
Yes. Because tooth color, translucency and shape are chosen according to your facial features, the result looks like your own smile rather than something "artificial." You see and approve it in advance at the mock-up stage.
How is the price determined?
The price depends on the number of teeth, the material chosen and any additional treatment needed. Smile design in Antalya is generally around 70% below European prices. We prepare a clear, personalized quote for you during an initial examination.
