When naming the types of dental veneers, they are named according to the material contained in the veneer. While deciding which veneer will be applied to our patients, the patient's purpose and expectations are taken into consideration. The types of veneers to be applied to patients who prefer veneers to have a Hollywood smile and patients who need a bridge due to tooth loss are different. For this reason, the durability, light transmittance rate, and cost of the veneer that patients need in the veneer cause differences in the type of veneer to be used. Types of dental veneers are as follows:

  • Porcelain Dental Veneers with Metal Base,

  • Full Ceramic Emax Empress Porcelain Tooth

  • Zirconium Veneer Tooth

  • Laminate Veneer - Laminated Tooth Veneer

  • Porcelain Dental Veneers with Metal Substructure

If the patient has tooth loss in one tooth or multiple teeth, it is preferred considering its durability. It is a type of veneer applied by coating porcelain on a metal substructure. The teeth to be veneered are measured. The metal substructure is prepared according to the measurement, rehearsal is made, corrections are made if necessary in the rehearsal, and after the corrections, the veneers are fixed to the surface of the natural teeth.

Over time, veneers with metal substructure can cause gray gums and rarely metal allergy, but they are often preferred because they are economical and durable.

Full Ceramic Empress Emax Dental Veneers

Since this type of veneer tooth contains compressed porcelain, it is a type of veneer tooth with very high light transmittance and high quality. Empress Emax dental veneers have an appearance very close to the natural tooth. It is mostly used on the front teeth for smile design. It is a type of veneer that our patients frequently prefer in single tooth veneers. Although it is a type of coating that can be applied for short bridges, it is a type of coating that cannot be applied for long bridges and chewing teeth in the back, considering its durability.

Zirconium Veneer

Zirconium crown is one of the aesthetic dental treatment methods that provides the closest appearance to natural teeth thanks to its light transmittance, heat-resistant, strong enough to withstand use in the mouth. Zirconium is the most aesthetically preferred crown coating material containing zirconium oxide, which forms the strongest and most durable coating on the market, as it is resistant to oxidation, corrosion and fractures in the mouth.

Where Are Zirconium Crowns Used?

  • Since it does not have any allergy properties, its usage area is wide. Since it is compatible with the tissue, it does not cause any harm to the body.

  • To change the appearance of the front teeth for aesthetic purposes

  • Color change

  • To straighten crooked teeth

  • To make spaced teeth (diastema) look united

  • In the presence of large caries that make it difficult for the filling to adhere

  • In the construction of broken, traumatized teeth,

  • It is preferred for use in tooth deficiencies.

Zirconium Veneer Construction Stages

  • The size, shape and color of the teeth are determined by listening to what the patient wants.

  • Local anesthesia is applied so that the patient does not feel pain.

  • The teeth are properly and carefully reduced by the physician and impressions are taken. Temporary teeth are fitted to the patient

  • A rehearsal is performed after 3-4 days on average. The technical situations that need to be corrected are evaluated, veneer compatibility is checked, and a decision is made together with the patient regarding the appearance.

  • 1-2 days later, the patient's permanent teeth are placed.

  • Each patient is fitted with a night plate at the end of the procedure to reduce the risk of fracture.

What are the Advantages of Zirconium Veneers?

  • Compared to metal-supported porcelain veneers, it is more compatible with the gums because it does not contain metal. Therefore, the possibility of gingival infection is weak and does not cause odor in the mouth. Thanks to its light transmittance feature, the appearance of natural teeth is fully captured. They can be used safely in patients allergic to metal.

Laminate Veneers

  • Laminate veneers, also called laminated teeth, leaf teeth, are types of prostheses that are generally applied to the front teeth for aesthetic purposes, used in the treatment of dental disorders, applied to the visible parts of the teeth with a very small amount of abrasion from the front surfaces of the teeth.

In Which Situations Are Laminate Veneers Used?

  • It is a cosmetic solution that can be used in cases where the person is aesthetically unhappy, open teeth (diastema), slightly crowded, overfilled front teeth, short teeth due to abrasion, broken teeth due to trauma, tooth and tooth discoloration. Laminated Veneers can be applied on all teeth, especially the upper front teeth.

What are the Stages of Laminate Veneer Application?

  • One of the biggest advantages of laminate veneer applications is that the patient can see the tooth structure he/she dreams of with the mold (mock-up) method specially prepared for him/her before the application.

  • The aesthetic appearance is decided together with the patient, and after the procedures performed under local anesthesia, temporary teeth are applied to prevent sensitivity and increase patient comfort. After an average of 4-5 days, laminate veneers are placed in place.

What are the Advantages of Laminate Veneers?

  • It causes the least damage to the tooth as very little cutting is made from the surface of the teeth.

  • It has a high level of protection for the teeth.

  • They do not cause discomfort to the patient because they are not abraded from the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

  • Laminate dental veneers do not lose color with the consumption of tea, coffee or similar beverages.

  • It is one of the most suitable methods to give an aesthetic appearance.

  • The adaptation period is short.

  • Aesthetic results are better than other restorations.

  • It is possible to see the final shape of the application before treatment.

What are the Disadvantages of Laminate Veneers?

  • Since the construction phase is very sensitive, it requires experience.

  • The laboratory phase must be meticulously applied.

  • It is a more expensive treatment method compared to other restorations (Porcelain Crown Veneers, Zirconium Veneers).

In Which Cases Is Laminate Veneer Not Performed?

  • In excessively crowded teeth

  • Patients with too much tooth clenching (bruxism)

  • In teeth with excessive fractures and loss of material that prevents the laminate from adhering

  • Patients with too much gingival recession

  • If there is decay on the inner surfaces of the teeth that cannot be cut

Do Lamenete Veneers Fall?

  • In this treatment, which requires sensitive and meticulous work, it can be used for many years without falling off with the professional working principle (special adhesive protocol).

Things to Consider After Laminate Veneer Treatment?

  • Hard or crusted foods should not be opened with teeth

  • Materials such as pens and hairpins should not be bitten and nails should not be bitten.

  • If teeth clenching (bruxism) occurs at night, night plates should be used.

  • Pay attention to oral hygiene, brushing and flossing.

  • Regular dental check-ups should be made.

The main difference between zirconium veneers and laminated veneers is that the laminated veneer is placed only on the front surface of the tooth, while the zirconium veneer completely covers the tooth.
